CFBT Instructors Award

Compartment Fire Behaviour Training (CFBT)

The British Fire Service in conjunction with our awarding body for competence based training (Edexcel) have now successfully developed the Compartment Fire Behaviour Training (CFBT) Instructors knowledge and understanding award and certificate (BTEC) to ensure that instructors are trained in CFBT and Positive Pressure Ventilation (PPV) techniques to a nationally recognised standard, that is externally quality assured by Edexcel. The award consists of two CFBT units and an additional unit for PPV techniques, which will merit a certificate. I had the honour and privilege of being the author of two of the units and my colleague – Paul Cross from the Devon Fire and Rescue Service wrote the other unit and with the support and guidance of our colleagues on the Chief Fire Officer’s Association CFOA (UK) CFBT National Practitioners’ Group and academic guidance from Moira Hargreaves, Sukhvinder Bhatnager, Rachel Hendrick and James Haskins – Edexcel. We have developed a knowledge and understanding national award and certificate for CFBT & PPV.
